The Digit is shown in murals as the severed golden finger of a giant-like creature encased in a sphere. The sphere is of yellowish crystalline glass, ringed with gold and an unfamiliar black metal, and covered in a metal substance sometimes known as mountain gold. It has containment etchings on it and filaments that connect the finger to the outside. Sometimes, depictions show the Digit related to the Moons, though which one it is varies.
When first encountered by the Reavers in 3x11 "Starlight, Star Bright" , the orb was massive and shed a blinding light throughout the entire room it was in. This light was enough to keep anyone out by tugging on the person's shadow, puliing harder the bigger the shadow. When the light shining on the walls was seen with Detect Magic, it was perceived as raw, burning creation. Upon looking at the orb itself (before being immediately and permanently blinded), one can see the digit inside along with anyone whose soul was pulled into it. Because it does that apparently.
Once someone successfuly makes contact with the Digit, they can have it take on any size and will it to dim. It asks to speak a truth, and whatever is spoken will be made so. The first wish is granted with no strings attached, however for subsequent uses it asks for something in return. The attunement process is long, strenuous, and quite painful, requiring saving throws for (presumably) each main stat with the risk of taking a nontrivial amount of damage.
The Digit is capable of revival, however the person is left different than before. It is unknown why, or to what extent, but the revival of Astraea left them with glowing white freckles across their body (and the lighting up of previous white freckles on their face). The meaning and consequences of this are yet to be discovered.
