Oil and Water

"Oil and Water" is the 8th session of Season 3.

 

The puzzles continue as the Reavers draw closer to their goal.

 

It was played on February 17, 2024.

The date in-game is the 13th day of Fall DST.

Synopsis

Plot

  • On the other side of the doorway, the door is immediately closed behind us, an inscription of the main dude pictured with the orb flanked by two of the winged people, there is a small landing and a very steep ramp spiraling upwards
  • The ramp seems strangely clean but not often used almost freshly hewn
  • There is a weird indentation on either side of landing
  • The whole area is definitely magical and the gem sconces are the same as they had been 
  • Lya is going first up the ramp climbing up hands and feet, all fours, Quill is following behind climbing up bc tabaxi
    • They travel upward a ways, feels like 30 feet, nothing of the ramp seems trapped, there is a landing with another door, there is almost the same scene but the winged people are turned back and the orb is not present
  • There is an ambient conjuration magic coming from under the door at the top of the ramp, there is a handle, which is strange because there have not been many handles here
    • The handle is the main persons hand
  • DD is shaking the dudes hand
    • Placing hand in hand doesn’t immediately do anything
    • Pulling and pushing it, it doesn’t move in that direction but there is a little bit of give
    • The door opens a rivulet of oil, the flow does not stop when the door is closed
      • The oil is probably flammable, it is not oil of slipperiness
      • The oil is not magical but its manifestation was magical
    • Maeve and Astraea slide down the ramp with the oil, Aster is able to misty step into the door to avoid the pressure plates, Maeve is slowing her decent with a dagger and Quill is trying to help stop her
      • Quill and Maeve are still sliding down the ramp but should be fine if they can slow down a bit more
    • Maeve and Quill slide right into Aster at the door into a puddle
  • Looking at the ceiling in the first area, it is almost a night sky depiction spiraling up the ramp that slowly changes to day, the ceiling above the pressure plates have no stars
  • Under the door, there is a gap with interspersed notches to let the oil through
  • Mage hand attempts to find knob on other side of ramp, it too heavy
  • Quill steps on the inner pressure plate and a series of clunks travels through the center column
  • We open the door and on the other side there is a little bit of an indent which still has some oil in it then there is a bit of an up
  • Very big room, 70ft by 70ft with some funky indents, once we are all through, the door behind us closes
  • As soon as we open the door fully, the air is cool and damp, each of the four hexagons are pools of water, the pools of water are entirely placid(pools numbered 1,2 and 3,4)
  • Quill dives into pool one, it is 50 feet deep, he leaves his bow, the water is cool
    • The surface does not disturb, quill can splash but as soon as he stops the water returns to being 
    • There is a strange viscosity at the top
  • The doors are lined with copper, there are copper bands around the walls
    • At the top most layer, there is a cityscape
    • Below the city is underwater stuff eventually becoming underwater ruins
  • Mariana dives into pool 1
    • The water feels a little bit strange but its like it is almost under more pressure
    • There is a pile of skeletons at the bottom
    • Buried in the three foot pile of skeletons that don’t look like any of the skeletons we’ve seen in here, there are two levers, these look amphibian, like coelacanth, and humanoid, like grung but with extra eyeholes in the skulls 
    • Kuo-toa ish: fish people associated with cult activity, they’re weird, usually a sign of corruption and the effects of the deep
      • Made the orb guy?? Maybe? 
      • Extra eyes and slightly more amphibian than fish
  • Time for pool 2
    • Less skeletons, still the same skeletons, there is maybe one of the bird skeletons
    • There they are there’s 2 levers
    • Bird skull and fish skull for meph
  • There are runes worked into the copper bands and there are fractal burns near the second pool
    • Astraea is looking at the runes near the second pool
      • They are like storm magic
      • Similar to the spell scroll of maelstrom, they have taken out a bit of wind interaction
      • Lightning stuff probably
  • Aster looks at the runes by pool 1
    • A lot more similar to maelstrom
    • Wind stuff
  • Mariana dives into pool 3
    • Five feet of skeletons
    • Mariana digs through the skeletons
  • Most to least skeletons: 3 1 2 4
  • Aster looks at runes by pool 3
    • Ice
  • Mariana dives into pool 4
    • There are basically no skeletons in this one, the levers are right there
  • Astraea looks at pool 4 runes
    • Undeath
  • Four of the copper bands connect straight to the door and its copper plating, one of each band
    • The runes by the door are light and a locking mechanism
  • Pool 1 bones are broken (wind/water turbulence perchance); hands grabbing both levers
  • Mariana ties a rope to the left lever of the 3rd pool(ice)
    • We are using the mage hand to pull the rope, its heavier than ten pounds
    • We tie another rope to it 
    • The pool now has 6in of ice at the top, the runes around the pool light up but the runes by the door do not 
    • Sunder smashes through and the ice and it refreezes
    • Lya shoots fire at the rope and frees the rope, the runes stop glowing
    • Mariana goes down and ties it to the other lever, the runes light up for the dor
    • Mariana secures the correct lever with rib cages and femurs and 10 feet of rope
  • Looking at ruins(there is weaponry from the city) at pool 2
    • All of them at once, pulling all of them at once is what we need to do and it seems like pulling only one of the right levers would have dire consequences
  • Undeath pool is bottom left of the runes at the door
    • We think that the left lever is probably the correct lever then
    • We try and pull the lever, the door lights up but the rope pulls up
    • We piton the rope into the on position
    • A skeleton climbs out of the pool with the rope and pokes maeve in the back
    • Lya obliterates
  • We are tying rope to pool 2
    • Right lever
  • Gelvrever is going to deal with the lightning lever, Mariana is going to shape water and Meph is going to pull the wind lever
    • Yanking at the same time
    • Both the lights turn on and the water stills
    • We don't need to hold the levers
  • The four lights activate, a ring lights up and lights up the center of the door and the two halves slide apart with the circle staying with the right side
  • The whole room is ramped and there is art on the walls
    • This is the guy’s life
    • There is a floor detail that is the orb
      • It is an orb of yellowish crystalline glass of some kind and inside of it is a big cylindrical object(gigantic fingerbone) which is covered in a weird metal substance (sometimes called mountain gold)
      • There are filaments connecting the finger to the outside of the orb
      • There is etching on the orb, they look like containment
      • There are grooves along the orb
    • A large depiction of another snake person, they were one of the coffins with the snake family
    • The door is almost a sun depiction
    • Each of the columns is an individual person
      • Snake people, similar to the ones we saw in the snake family room
    • The door is a depiction of night
    • Ceiling is mostly war that happened here, specifically individual battles
    • Lya wanted to check and see if Maeve was in the art
      • There is no Maeve present
    • 12 bird people near the floor by the door, they are fancy with headpieces and stuff
    • There is also another bird on the door, still the bottom
    • There are three moons on the door
      • You can slide the moons
      • They are given color, there is detail given to Skouriá (the biggest)
    • There are some giants as the room tapers
    • No death scenes
    • There are hands around the ball, two main hands, there are also a bit of depictions of other bones around, more finger bones
    • Wealthy childhood, monarchy type thing, there are depictions of some amount of challenge, this person went to war before becoming leader and probably made the orb
      • There is a depiction of a big thing being very dead and missing a finger, this dead thing looks bigger and instead of being dark blue, it is like a gold
      • This guy definitely killed this big thing, severed by a portal
      • The dead big boy has moons on his forehead
    • There are no depictions of the waystones
    • There are depictions of building this place, near the end
    • There are depictions of the finger being used, it is usually depicted as building the city
      • Snake guy isn't always the one using it
      • He was mostly wielding trident in war scenes, not orb
      • He isn't always holding the finger, it is sometimes depicted as hovering over him shining 
  • Looking for moon motif
    • Sometimes orb is moon related, which moon it is changes
  • The door is currently locked
  • We arrange the moons to be all lining up and the door opens
    • There is a big coffin, like 20ft by 10ft and 5 ft tall
