Qua (also spelled 𝒬) is a firefly that lives below the Plane of Dust's surface, in an opening in the soil created by the Dream Blossom's roots.

Appearance

𝒬 is a small firefly with a quiet, high-pitched voice. It does not talk ordinarily, but responded to the Speak With Animals spell.

Personality

𝒬 is not fond of the idea of adventure, preferring to stay in its underground home. It often speaks in one-word responses.

Qua's name is a reference to the Quarternionic Group in group theory, which is a non-abelian group of order eight, isomorphic to the eight-element subset { 1 , i , j , k , − 1 , − i , − j , − k } of the quaternions under multiplication, represented by a curly letter Q 𝒬.
