Appearance

The Grand Magi appears as a vaguely humanoid form draped with a maroon cloak. The shape of their head under the hood is notably oversized and lumpy. The cloak waves as though under a light breeze, and the hem falls to a few inches off the ground, under which no limbs can be seen. They speak with a calm, thoughtful, and careful voice.

After the discovery of the maroon cloth in the Armide's secret room, Maeve took a closer look at the Magi's cloak and discovered there is a tear, but only when Vasalor is mentioned.

 

Personality

Ashaksell is cagey, but wise, choosing when and if to answer questions very carefully, and only rarely appearing. Even then, they say they've been interfering too much.

The Magi speaks with the royal "we".

Background

Ashaksell posesses an otherwise abandoned arena in Earthreach, from which they hold sway over it's large magical community. Mephitis sought an audience with The Grand Magi there, and received no response. Its widely whispered that they are one of the High Shapers of the Eight Pointed Star, a fact confimed in conversation with Vasalor. 

 

Flung From the Gyre

The arena of Ashaksell stood on the edge of Novas Arule, a fact seen as normal in town. The party paid it a visit on two occasions. On the first, in episode 1.07, they met and conversed with the Grand Magi themself, who instructed them to investigate the edge of the town. Aella and them also shared a private conversation, wherein they destroyed the curse on Aella's Ring.

When the party returned to the arena in episode 1.09 after the sand storm began, they discovered a menagerie or prison of otherworldy creatures in the hypogeum. the Grand Magi was themself absent.

They appeared again above the ceiling in the Expanse, helping in the fight against Sonoth by summoning a mass of giant tentacles with bones.

They were then mysteriously absent following a conversation with Vasalor and Daisy Daisy inside a mirror, only reappearing alongside the horns as most of the party stood trial. They then offered the group a choice: leave now with Vasalor, or stay behind and answer for their crimes, in exchange for another airship.

 Vasalor Fallstar

Both were members of the Eight Pointed Star at the same time. He has a critical opinon of them.

Goal

Seemingly to help thoes who need it, but their caged and measured responses imply a further unstated aim. Sought payment of unwanted magic items for information.
